A throwback to when we asked Davide Virdis to imagine what a road-going Porsche 936 might have looked like.

Is the Porsche 936 the most underrated Le Mans winner from Porsche? We wanted to make a love letter to the first-ever turbo prototype to win at the storied French race, so we imagined an alternative universe with artist Davide Virdis where only 7 homologation-specials were produced. You could even call it the Type 7 special.

Introducing the 936 Strassenversion, a barnstorming road-legal version dripping in luxurious details for those few who would be crazy enough to take an early turbocharged race car out on the road. All of the Le Mans-winning power, with an enclosed, fully upholstered cockpit and a wrap-around perspex windscreen optimised for comfort on the road. Call it something of a spiritual successor to the Count Rossi 917 if you will.

The car features a livery homage to the racing version, with hand-painted Martini stripe details, as well as an adaptation of the Turbo graphic from the very first Porsche 911 Turbo show car across the huge rear wing end plates.

Head inside, and the race-ready fibreglass and metal interior has been draped in luxurious two-tone leather - it even has a handbrake. Ultimately, we’d like to imagine that if Type 7 were alive and well back in the 1970s, this is what would be waiting for a Sunday drive in our garage.
