A 944 Odyssey

Travelling across the country for a film, and driving back in an unknown car.

Ever since my buddy Jonny Hill picked up a Porsche 944 Turbo, I couldn’t shake the idea of owning one and turning it into a rally build. Watching the adventures he created with it inspired me to start searching for one of my own. I was motivated not just by my love for classic cars, but because I knew it would be an incredible platform for building stories.

Like most of my vehicle purchases, the search started on Facebook Marketplace. If I’m being honest, I probably spend way too much time scrolling through listings. Whether I’m actively looking or not, it’s become my favorite place to find unique vehicles, and somehow I always end up discovering something I didn’t know I needed.

After weeks of searching, I found the one: a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo sitting in California. What really sold me wasn’t just the car itself, it came with over 30 years of meticulously documented maintenance records. Finding a nearly 40-year-old sports car with that kind of history is incredibly rare, and it gave me the confidence to make the trip.

I drove out to California to see the Odyssey in 70mm IMAX and bought the car during that trip, then pointed it toward Utah. The drive home was the perfect way to get acquainted with it, winding through the desert and mountains while feeling the pull of the the turbo spool on every on-ramp. It wasn’t just the beginning of owning a dream car, it was the start of a new chapter of content, road trips, and adventures I’d been imagining ever since Jonny inspired me to start the search.

It recently had the interior re-done, so that along with the decades of stories behind it and the impeccable original paint condition, this is truly a beauty of a classic 80s Porsche. Some vehicles are just transportation. This one already has nearly four decades of stories behind it, and now I get to write the next chapter.
