Carrera di Carrara

Exploring Carrara’s famous marble quarries in a 964 Speedster.

Set against the otherworldly backdrop of Carrara’s marble quarries in Tuscany, we spent some time with a Grand Prix White Porsche 964 Speedster, a rare gem in every sense. With its distinctive low windshield and chopped-down silhouette, the car’s uncluttered lines mirrored the dramatic cuts in the mountain carved by generations of human labour.

This car belongs to Iacopo Pelucchini, a young enthusiast and collector from Versilia, Tuscany. His history with Porsche runs deep, shaped by childhood memories of model cars and stories from his father, who once owned a 911 2.2 T in the evocative “carta da zucchero” blue.

Iacopo’s Speedster, originally imported from the United States, has remained mostly untouched, save for a slightly sportier exhaust. “It’s completely original,” he tells us, “and that’s exactly how I like it.” Though he uses it sparingly, every drive reminds him why this car is so special: “It feels raw, mechanical, alive, there’s more wind, more noise, more everything.”

A true connoisseur, Iacopo also owns a 1964 356 C in Rubin Red, a Mini Moke, an Alfa 4C, and a few other classics. But the Speedster holds a singular place in his garage, and in his heart. “It’s full of quirks. It leaks, it creaks, it’s a pain to climb into with the top on. But that’s all part of the charm.”

“It feels raw, mechanical, alive, there’s more wind, more noise, more everything.”
