Family Affair

A collection of Porsches that were made to be shared.

Tucked away in a garage inspired by traditional Lower Silesian architecture, you’ll find a treasure trove: ten Porsches, around fifty scale models, and just above them, a cozy guest apartment accessed via a staircase salvaged from an old Porsche Center.

The space is filled with half of Porsche’s lifestyle collections, classic pepita tiles, and a generous dose of memorabilia. All of it overlooks a 200-year-old vineyard: believe it or not, that’s still not the best part of the Drive and Roll collection.

“As a classic sports car, the 911, well, isn’t exactly the roomiest, especially when you’re a family of five. At that point, most people would go for an SUV or a wagon. But where’s the fun in that? For us, it means setting off on a road trip with three cars instead of one. And even then, it’s sometimes a tough choice!” Tomek explains, the head of the family, offering a glimpse into their unique take on life.

For them, the old saying that “cars are meant to be driven” isn’t just a belief; it’s become something of a family motto. Whether it’s a quick grocery run, a seaside holiday, or strapping Swan chairs to the roof rack en route to Luftgekühlt in Denmark, the journey is always the highlight. When asked individually - with no chance to compare notes - each family member says the same thing: it’s the shared adventures that make the collection truly priceless.

“I also love seeing my dad so excited, sharing all these stories with like-minded people at meetings and rallies. Over the years, they’ve become almost like relatives to us,” adds Tomek’s daughter, Ela.

Today, the Drive and Roll family collection is all about the rare and remarkable, with three consecutive anniversary editions and eye-catching colors: Lime Green on an early 911T, Maritime Blue on a 968 CS, and a one-off PTS Lemon Yellow 993 Turbo.

“As a proper household member, each car gets its own nickname, which we often invent together,” Tomek adds.

Luckily, the ever-growing calendar of automotive events makes it easy to find an excuse to hit the road. As a warm-up, the latest addition to the garage - a Meissen Blue 356A, affectionately known as Moomin for its bubbly shape and soft pastel tone - set off for the FAT Ice Race in January, joined by three other flat-four classics from Poland.

Picking a favourite might seem difficult, but when asked, every family member names this very car. The 356 holds a particularly special place in the heart of Ela, Tomek’s daughter — as it was the car she chose to drive to her wedding.

"At that point, most people would go for an SUV or a wagon. But where’s the fun in that? For us, it means setting off on a road trip with three cars instead of one. And even then, it’s sometimes a tough choice!”

“Somehow Porsches are very far from being pretentious. They are iconic and simply timeless, they make you and everyone around smile. Thanks to these cars we’ve met a lot of fantastic people, some of them we’re lucky to call our second family.”
