Huck takes us through his 1978 Porsche 911SC and the add-ons he gave it to make it his own.

“I was the kid on the school run who spent the whole time looking out the window identifying every car - and I mean every car. It’s lucky really that my mum is into cars too, and somewhere along the line the Ford Explorer she had when I was younger ended up wrapped in bright orange Gumball 3000 stickers.”

Huckleberry Mountain is a photographer and videographer based out of the Cotswolds, England – but one look at his Instagram and you’d be forgiven for thinking he lives in decidedly more exotic surroundings. “In the past few years I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many great brands, but my favourite shoot was with Singer and Jota Sport to capture their Porsche 963 around Los Angeles. This essentially started as a back of napkin and slightly tipsy idea over dinner which one month later turned into one of my most creative shoots to date.”

He explains his big break into the car world came when he was asked to join in filming the London to Tokyo Gumball 3000 Rally; “I cancelled all of my plans to make that happen, this was ironically my first job in the car industry, the rally I obsessed over as a kid!”

A few years later he found his own dream machine, a 1978 911 SC sitting on an eBay listing. “When I first went to see the car I was trying to play it cool, as you do,” he explains, “but as soon as I took it out for a test drive that all went out the window. The sound of the flat 6, shifting through the gears of that characteristic 915 gearbox and feeling every dip, crack, stone on the road…I wanted this car in my life.”

Initially interested in a (much newer) Cayman GT4, Huck explains he became enthralled with the Californian car scene, specifically air-cooled Porsche meets; “there was a sense of community and expression I hadn’t really encountered before in the industry, no sense of right or wrong, just a group of likeminded people of all ages getting together and appreciating each-others cars.”

On making the 911 SC his own, Huck explains; “the way the car drives was always the priority. hence starting on the engine with PMO carbs, 964 cams, lightweight clutch and a full Tuthill safari exhaust system.” Along with replacing the standard Porsche-issue leather shift boot and gear knob with a wooden red striped gear knob made out of skateboards (a nod to his videographic origins), the most striking alteration is the RSR wing and RUF rear. “I knew I wanted the back end to have more presence, and the RSR wing was the best way I’d found to add some. Pretty soon my least favourite angle of the car became my favourite!”
