Creative director at Youtube David Bruno admits his long-standing obsession with the Porsche 993.

What do you think the Creative Director of Youtube’s Creative Studio drives? We caught up with David Bruno in Windsor earlier this year - a man with a self-diagnosed “serious and possibly incurable 993 fever”.

We unload David’s prized 993 Turbo from the garage it shares with it’s fellow 993 Carrera 2 sibling and as we take it for a few laps of Windsor Castle, it becomes quickly apparent not just how special this particular 993 is, but also how meticulously it’s cared for.

The Midnight Blue and matching interior are preened and polished, and sits on a set of Hartmann 3-piece turbo twist wheels, a rare gem reminiscent of both the iconic turbo twist and GT2 Speedline wheels. As David points out, there is little-to-no compromise with this car; “it has the best of German engineering and British design, the peak of form and function, head and heart.”

The more we learn about how particular David is about the 993, it’s all the more surprising that it was bought blind. It was one of the best examples that came through David’s trusted 911 specialists, and as he recalled “all the buyer’s guide wisdom seemed to escape me that day.”

On the drive down South, the Turbo pours over the Sussex B-roads as we follow. Its stance is mean and the wide-body and spoiler make its movements furtive, like a hotrod on the run. Once the car is sitting pretty amongst good company at the Flat 6 show, we dove into David’s path to ownership.

He had long obsessed about owning a 993; scale models and posters preceded a ‘Porsche Fund’ and an exhaustive blog he’s been writing since 2012. We get the sense David could pour over every detail in either of his 993s for hours. He has a holistic infatuation with the generation, and being a creative director he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of classic Porsche advertising. “Kills Bugs Fast”, his personal favourite, is scribed onto the walls of his garage.

There is no antidote to his 993 affliction; It’s the law of attraction, as David likes to say.
