On the ground for Luftgekuhlt’s latest in Durham, North Carolina.

Luftgekuhlt brought the goods last weekend in Durham, North Carolina. The 11th edition of this now-legendary air cooled gathering was held within the confines of the multi-level American Tobacco Campus, which after a vast redevelopment starting at the turn of the millennium is today home to restaurants, retail, and more within the old warehouse and factory buildings. It was the perfect stage for Jeff Zwart’s cinematographic setup, placing cars in ideal spots for some great images and hangouts under the autumn sun.

Beginning all the way back in 2014, Luftgekuhlt has had a radical impact over the years on the way car events are staged. Each outing is held at a different venue, often one that won’t have ever hosted a car event before. The first few began in California but they’ve since spread much further afield, including Europe in the case of Air|Water, their offshoot event series aimed at a broader variety of Porsche culture. No matter where it’s held, Luftgekuhlt always proves to be a unique space for the community, pulling cars and people together among new and stunningly photogenic surroundings.

Whether it’s racing cars from the earliest days of Porsche’s motorsport history, stunning road cars from around the eastern and southern US, or the full-size Hot Wheels toy of Gunnar Racing’s Type 7-liveried 914, every corner has another surprise, and somehow the team continue to raise the bar.
