On display for the next few months at Curvistan Bangkok, Stefan Bogner was on the ground to capture the delivery of this Porsche Museum gem.

Bangkok’s Chinatown is a district that rarely slows down. Street food vendors, delivery trucks, and steady streams of visitors give the area its familiar rhythm. Against that backdrop: a Porsche 956 freshly transported from the Porsche Museum, glimmering under the neon.

In 1983 this very example claimed victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell at the wheel, two names synonymous with endurance racing. Over the course of the 1980s the 956 dominated at La Sarthe and across the World Sportscar Championship, cementing Porsche’s reputation at the top level of motorsport. Its lap record at the Nürburgring - just six minutes and eleven seconds - stood for decades, a marker of just how far ahead the car was in its time.

Seeing it in Chinatown highlighted this contrast; market stalls carried on as usual nearby, yet the presence of a car once at the cutting edge of racing technology gave the setting a different kind of focus. It might have been parked for the shoot, but even sitting still there’s a sense of speed associated with the car, an aura of sorts that has embedded itself within the vehicle’s aerodynamic shape.

The car’s journey to Bangkok was a significant logistical challenge. Coordinated by Stefan Bogner of Curves Magazin in partnership with the Porsche Museum, the process took over a year to complete. Its arrival coincides with the latest exhibition at Curvistan Bangkok. The concept, Bogner and Thai developer and Porsche collector Khun Chanond Ruangkritya, blends design, gallery space, café culture and automotive storytelling.

From August 30 the 956 will be on display at their location in Sukhumvit’s Thonglor district as part of the Raceborn exhibition, where it’s expected to remain for several months.
