La Chiave va a Sinistra

La Chiave va a Sinistra

The touring leather craft business that uses a Porsche 356 for a work van.

If ever you find yourself on a stroll through the town of Monza, you might be lucky enough to spot Davide Mariscotti of K&YFOB working his craft in the sunshine. He’ll be seen at a table with his leather press and paintbrushes, producing his “proudly made in Monza” key rings as he has done since 2018.

Each one is custom, starting with a leather of your choosing and a hand stamped message to go into it. The very first one made was for a particularly special Porsche 356 and bears the words “La chiave va a sinistra” (the key goes on the left). It’s a helpful instruction for drivers unfamiliar with its unique cabin layout and an introduction to the first of many idiosyncrasies present in a car that’s been in Davide’s family for more than 20 years.

“It’s my detachment from day to day life, my zen garden of noise and fuel” says Mariscotti of the 356SC.

Far from standard, the car has a bumper delete, sport suspension and an engine tuned to 140bhp, a performance figure expressed sonorously through a Carrera style single-exit exhaust.

Beyond the Porsche, Davide’s custom key rings now hang from the ignition barrels of thousands of cars all over the world. Each represent a small slice of Monza, where there’s a little signal-red sports car still regularly making the rounds to refresh the streets with the scent of fuel and leather.
