Catching up with Callum in Central London and his 996 generation Porsche 911 Turbo.

Callum Mullin’s adoration of Porsche was instilled in him at a young age. “Since I was two, the flat 6 has been kind of ingrained in me, probably due to my Dad’s 924 he had at the time, and I still have a picture of me with the first 968 I ever saw!”

We join the automotive and fashion personality at Bar Italia in London’s Soho, a spot he regularly frequents with friends. We talk transaxle Porsches, but also the car he developed a love for all on his own: the 996 Turbo.

“The 996 Turbo was THE heavy-hitter in Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed, which I used to play so much. It was the top dog, the best car you could get in the game, and that sticks with you I think. Owning this one was never really meant to happen, it was by chance. I loved the spec, a kind of flip of my Dad’s red on black 924, and so I made a crazy low offer, which was somehow accepted.”

It's all down to specs for Callum, and the nitty-gritty, tiny parts that make a car whole - and that particularly applies to his tastes for Porsche. His content often delves into the finer points, with a self-confessed nerdiness about the lesser seen and sometimes left-field aspects of the cars he features, and Porsches often appeal to these niches. Coverage of the sometimes unorthodox sides of car culture is part of how Callum has managed to pick up his dedicated following, and how he's managed to get so many younger people involved in the automotive community.

“I think as a Porsche kid, you have to fight your corner in the playground a little more than if you’re into other (more shouty) supercars.” Soho is a far cry from the school-yard, but the poignancy is not lost on Callum that his teenage 996 video game dream is now a reality.
