The Speedster Trio

The Speedster Trio

How Søren Dybdal assembled every generation of Porsche Speedster.

“Long Alpine tours through Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France have been a habit for me for many years,” Søren explains. “Mostly in open cars – Speedsters, Spyders. Those tours are the highlights of my year. My driving companion is often my friend Anton, who drives a Ferrari Dino. We share the roads in our classic Porsche and Ferrari and share the same driving spirit. We’ve never lost sight of each other no matter how fast we go. The only thing that could beat that is when my wife and my son often join me on the Alpine tours - especially now that my son is old enough to drive as well.”

Søren Dybdal has amassed quite the collection over the years, but today we’re focusing on a trio of Speedsters in his stable - all in striking shades of red.

“My first real sports car was a 1962 Austin Healey 3000. When I sold it after 18 years and thousands of kilometres, there wasn’t a nut and a bolt in the car I didn't know. Still having the Healey, I bought my first Porsche – a black Porsche 911 F model from 1973, a car I modified over the coming years into a rather rough sports car.

However, despite my love for this car, I had to eventually sacrifice it to make room in the garage and raise money for my ultimate dream – A Porsche 911 G-model Speedster. My love, however, for the black F-model didn’t reduce at all. And it remained so strong that - 9 years later - I had to buy the very same car back again. Fortunately, the garage had grown bigger by then.

"Today I have Porsches from 1956 to 2022, with 66 years between the oldest and the newest."

Today I have Porsches from 1956 to 2022, with 66 years between the oldest and the newest. The Speedster is still the pearl in my garage and I am now the fortunate owner of three of them - 1956 356 Pre-A Speedster, 1989 G-model Speedster and a 2019 991 Speedster that I bought new. My Speedsters are not spared. They are used, used and used. This goes for all my cars. All my cars have manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. It is the most challenging and fun way of driving a Porsche – in my eyes it is the real Porsche spirit.

"Speedsters are pure, straightforward and open - they suit me well."

Speedsters are pure, straightforward and open - they suit me well. The windshield is low, and the top is simple and manual. The openness and purity is an enhancer. It doesn’t matter if it's an old Speedster or a new Speedster – the spirit is the same. If it is cold and wet, then it is even colder and wetter in a Speedster. If it is beautiful and scenic then impressions are also amplified. If you drive in the mountains, the unobstructed view is unbeatable. The spirit of all Speedsters is to always drive the cars open.”
