Le Petit Français

Nicolas Plasmondon takes us through the journey to build his dream Carrera 3.2.

“I’ve always loved doing things by myself. When I was younger I assembled my own skateboards, then I rebuilt my bike at university. I’ve always wanted to build a car but never had the chance or opportunity until the pandemic.”

After 4 years into ownership, Nicolas Plasmondon and his Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 have very much gotten to know one another. He’s travelled all around France in the car, going as far as the deserts of Spain on one occasion and pilling on over 30,000 kilometres in the process. It started out as a design project, falling somewhere between a late 60s 911 S/T and the later 80s details that it left the factory with.

“Before the pandemic, I was travelling a lot so I never had the time for a project like this. Once I was stuck in France, I took that as a sign to start. I thought ‘well if I’m stuck here, at least I can lock myself in a garage and create the dream car’. I’ve always loved old 911s, so I found one in a few weeks with good mileage and in good condition, but already modified with non standard parts and a non factory colour. It was the perfect base for the project.

For the design I spent a lot of time looking at other 911s and classic cars, identifying the details that worked together. It was a long and intense process but it was awesome and I learned a lot. Finding the right colour was very difficult, I told the painter I wanted cream and I was offered almost 150 different shades to choose from. After picking one I spent 3 weeks asking myself if I made the right choice, but now I think the colour is the most beautiful thing on the car.

On the bodywork, we put Turbo flares on the front arches and S/T flares on the rear, which had to be adapted to the 3.2 bumpers. It was crazy work, but it made the car completely unique. Finally we reworked the interior with new leather and many aluminium details, which are truly beautiful. I can’t get bored of this car, I just love it!”
