The story of Alix Schroeder’s first car and the years she’s enjoyed driving it through LA.

“I’ve had a history with these cars since I was a baby. Before I was born, my mother ordered a Boxster the first year it came out and picked up a matching Porsche baby seat to go with it. The two of us used to drive around La Jolla with the top down.”

Cruising around for nearly a decade now, Alix Schroeder has been hard to miss in LA driving her Gulf Blue Porsche 911SC. First cars are always very personal, but Alix’s car arguably takes that a little further. It was originally a high school graduation gift, one that she didn’t quite believe was actually happening until her dad came into her room one day with a handful of blue paint swatches.

“He was restoring the car for me, he knew blue was my favourite colour so I just picked the shade I liked the most. Since I picked Gulf Blue, he even made the seat inserts in orange to fit the vibe.

All my life I was surrounded by cars because of him, he always had something cool in the garage. I was enamoured with the car the moment I first saw it, I absolutely loved how mechanical it was. I loved how the gauges would react, how the shifter felt, even the feeling of the light switches. You can feel the feedback of the car through your feet, so I always make a point of wearing low profile shoes to get the full experience.

During the pandemic I attended college classes online. I was very lonely at the time, but the car was the perfect cure. I used to go to cars and coffees every weekend and socialise with the community, it was so refreshing. One of my favourite things I still do in the car is just drive up the PCH to go to the beach, I park it somewhere deep in Malibu and swim in the Pacific, I often see other people in their special cars doing the same thing, it’s the embodiment of California cool.”
