Though 993 Carrera RS prices rose beyond reach years ago, Matar’s dream of owning one remained firm. Instead of buying one, he decided he’d build his own take on the legendary model, using original Carrera RS parts found in a garage in Abu Dhabi.
“I bought the car from an online auction in Japan. I had my eyes on three different cars and colours and ended up winning the bid on this model in Speed Yellow, originally a 993 Carrera.”
Inside, the theme remains motorsport-focused. Original 993 GT2 Momo steering wheel, RS Clubsport Recaro seats and little personal touches and logos on the dashboard. For Matar, it’s all about the air-cooled era.
“Sometimes I get to drive my brother’s car, a 991 GT3 RS, but it doesn’t feel the same and I always feel the urge to go back driving the older car. There’s just something special about it.”

Matar’s 993 is a near-perfect Carrera RS homage with just the right number of personal touches to make it unique.
While attending the 5th edition of Icons of Porsche late last year, we took the opportunity to connect with Matar and his 993. Born in Al Ain but working in Abu Dhabi, his car might look close to a production example, but it’s far more personal once you delve into the details.
