Celebrating 50 years of the little Porsche that could.

Lorenzo Kikisch has photographed many stories for us over the years, ranging from Le Mans racers in the Alps to unique rally cars in the snow and a range of high profile Porsche events. Until now however, he’s never turned the lens around on his own car, the one that carried him through it all.

The 924 first hit the streets fifty years ago. Compared with some of Porsche’s other models, this isn’t a birthday you’re likely to hear much about. To those that really know however, the 924 always did have a heart of gold, and its enduring resilience continues to carry its small but deeply passionate following through many happy miles of driving. For Lorenzo, it made sense to finally give it a proper tribute.

“Fifty years later, the 924 still feels surprisingly modern. Not because it tries to follow trends, because it was built on smart, clear engineering that still makes sense today.

It was never the typical Porsche. Front engine, transaxle, a bit different and still underestimated.

'It does not shout. It does not try to impress. It simply works and it works beautifully."

After years and countless kilometres in my 924S, I have come to appreciate it more and more. The balance, the steering, the way it just feels right. It does not shout. It does not try to impress. It simply works and it works beautifully.

When it came out, the 924 was ahead of its time. Today it feels classic, but its clever design and mechanical honesty still shine through. This photo series is my tribute to that quiet brilliance.”
